Noticing Tone Levels
Practical Assignments
Note: These final exercises are optional. You do not have to do them. They are included here for you to do to help you get an increased understanding and ability to apply the materials of the course.
Go to a place where there are lots of people, such as a bus or train station. Pick out a person and notice his or her tone level. For example, just stop and talk to someone or watch someone do some activity and see if you can spot which tone level he is in. Do not tell the person that you think he is at some tone level. This is just a drill you do to help you observe.
Continue doing this until you are confident that you can see someone’s tone level by the way they talk or behave.
